It’s a bird, it’s a plane … it’s a VW Bus, right in the middle of The Mexican, the latest restaurant to open in Royal Palm Plaza. This lively tequila and cocina bar is the latest creation by famed restaurateur, Dennis Max, who you may know from Max’s Grille or Max’s Harvest or the long list of other restaurants he’s owned and operated in the area. This latest venture takes him back to his Southern California roots and offers a creative menu of Mexican street food in a festive setting.
On the menu, you’ll find ordinary favorites with a gourmet twist thanks to Executive Chef, Scott Pierce and a variety of street food favorites. Start off with an order of their Ceviche de la Casa or Chile Rellano (Crispy green chile stuffed with chorizo, cheese & corn over corn mole and salsa roja). Continue on with their Chicken Empanadas or their Pork Belly Arepas — and save room for their staples like enchiladas (chicken, short ribs or seafood).
Break away from tradition and try one of their entrees. The Roasted Snapper Veracruzana (Roasted fish with tomatoes, onions, olives, capers & herbs) and Carne Asada al Carbon (Grilled flat-iron steak, potato & chorizo hash with poblano & onion rajas and chili–garlic salsa) are both equally enticing.
A trip to The Mexican is as much about the drinks (here comes the tequila) as it is about the food, and The Mexican has quite the selection to choose from. Whether it’s a shot of tequila, a classic Margarita or something signature to The Mexican like The Maxarita (Strawberry infused tequila, fresh lime, agave nectar, cointreau, strawberry garnish) — you know that you’re in for a night to remember.
