Pizza Making Tips + a Hands-On Class at Solita + Mastino

Mastino Pizza

Let’s go back to the age-old question — where can you find the best pizza in South Florida? It’s time to put an end to that search and make it so the best pizza in South Florida comes straight out of your kitchen. Impossible? We think not. Thanks to the hands-on pizza making classes held at Solita & Mastino, by restaurateur, Steven Dapuzzo

Mastino Pizza Dough

Great for beginners and experienced pizza makers alike, these fun-filled two-hour classes combine education, entertainment and some time to fill your belly. (They’re great for team building, as well.) Did you know that pizza was originally peasant food? You’ll learn this fun fact and more during the classes. Attendees will also enjoy learning how to knead and stretch out their pizza dough (I still want to master tossing pizza dough); correctly top and season the pizza; will learn handy tips along the way; and will have time to enjoy their finished masterpiece — with a glass of wine or beer, of course.

Classes will soon take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m., but for now, classes are scheduled for March 9, March 23, April 13 and April 27. Cost is $69 per person and reservations are required. (Register Now)

In the meantime, we thought that we’d give you a little education, and provide you with some pizza making tips for baking the perfect pie.

Pizza Making Tips

  • Buy a pizza stone and season, if needed.
  • Knead the dough from the center and continue kneading clockwise to the edge.
  • Use a little sugar and olive oil in the dough. This will help brown and char the pizza perfectly.
  • Use San Marzano tomatoes
  • When making homemade mozzarella, it should be pulled at 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Ladle on the sauce and use the bottom of the ladle to spread it
