HMF — the new eating and drinking establishment at The Breakers — has finally opened it’s doors in the former L’Escalier restaurant and Tapestry Bar location. Named after The Breakers’ founder Henry Morris Flagler, HMF brings a refreshing take on the seductive Palm Beach cocktail culture and is set to become a place for locals and visitors alike, to meet for an evening of social eating and drinking.
With HMF, no detail was overlooked, so this will be the place to go when you’re looking to impress. From a design standpoint, The Breakers brought on famed hospitality designer Adam D. Tihany (Per Se, Restaurant Daniel, Le Cirque 2000, MO Bar London), a design consultant for Peacock + Lewis Architects) to transform the historic Florentine Room into a contemporary, Palm Beach cocktail soiree. Be sure to check out the impressive Wine Wall, a 7,000-bottle showcase of The Breakers’ 28,000-bottle collection.
“The nostalgia and the glamour of yesteryear are quite en vogue, while palates continue to become more sophisticated,” said Tihany. “We conceived HMF to be an open, interactive arena of decadent delights, and to cultivate a distinctly social, dynamic and inviting environment for the resort’s savvy clientele.”
The menu is sure to tantalize your taste buds with signature cocktails with innovative twists ($10.50-$14) — we loved the Frescavescent (Tito’s Vodka, Fresh Squeezed Lemon, Lime & Grapefruit Juice); a fantastic wine list with selections from around the world thanks to Master Sommelier Virginia Philip and her talented team (available by the glass in 3.5 or 7-oz pours or by the bottle); craft beers; and a creative menu of small plates, thanks to Chef Joey Tuazon, formerly of Acqua at the Four Seasons Miami. These items (ranging from $5 to $28) are separated into Nibbles and Bites, Food Truck inspirations, Salumi, Hearth and Robata, Field, Bowls, Sushi and Sashimi — and of course, desserts. While these items are meant for sharing among friends (Isn’t that what eating and drinking is all about?), they are some items that you might want to keep all to yourself.
Highlights from our first eating and drinking experience at HMF included Duck Bao Buns with blood orange pasta; Robata Grilled Artichokes (this will turn non-vegetable lovers into fanatics); Orecchiette, Tuscan Duck Sausage, Wild Mushrooms; Churrasco Steak Chimichurri; and Warm Pumpkin Praline, Bread Pudding, Tahitian Vanilla Bean Custard. You can see the full menu here.
While HMF is sure to be the evening hangout in Palm Beach (you can barely resist breaking out those dancing shoes when sounds of Louis Armstrong fill the room), it will also be open throughout the day from 7:00 am until late night. Stop by to enjoy a morning cappuccino, freshly baked pastry, a casual lunch, afternoon tea, glass of wine, cocktail or make your way through the internationally-inspired menu when the evening rolls around. We also heard that a happy hour is in the works, so stay tuned for more details.
HMF is located at The Breakers, 1 S County Rd, Palm Beach; 561.659.8480
