I’m always on the hunt for a good bowl of mussels. So when I received the press release on Stephane’s a few months ago, I knew I was in luck. Not only do they serve mussels (and have a special on Mondays called Mondays Mussels Lovers), they have an entire menu — well almost, there’s eight variations — of mussels. From the traditional white wine variation to flavors of Sumaurai (with sake, pickled ginger, green onions and lemongrass) and Bangkok (with coconut curry, garlic, coriander, lemongrass, lime and white wine), I will certainly be feasting on this favorite treat. If their Mumbai version with flavors of India tastes anything like the ones I had at Clay Pit in Austin with their addictive Garlic Naan, I will be in foodie heaven.
I can almost stop dreaming about these mussels, as Stephane’s is about to open (scheduled date is Sunday, July 15). In addition to mussels, they will serve an entire menu of French and American specialties created by Chef John Belleme (most recently from Umi Fish Bar) focusing on sustainable seafood, antibiotic-free meat and a raw bar. To pair up with these delectable dishes, Stephane’s has created an exciting beverage program. Master Sommelier, Virginia Phillip, has created an iPad beer and wine pairing menu and bar manager/mixologist, Melvin Negron will be mixing up your favorite libations with standouts like molecular martinis like the Brunette (a blend of Van Gogh Espresso, Frangelico and Kahlua topped with Godiva white chocolate pearls) and nitrogen-infused martinis.
Stephane’s will be open for lunch and dinner, and will soon be serving a weekend brunch. Specials during the week include a prix-fixe lunch for $19.90, a fashion défilé (high-end fashion show) during brunch and lunch. Mondays will be Monday Mussels Lover (2 lb for the price of 1), Wednesdays will be Ladies night starting at 6pm (one free cocktail to female patrons) and a unique blend of lounge music will add to the experience.
Stéphane’s is located at 2006 NW Executive Center Circle, off Glades Road, in Boca Raton. (561) 893-8838.

Yeah, goes to show you how the blue laws work in this state. I used to be amazed at the fact that I coldun’t buy beer from the grocery store on a Sunday I think that’s carrying things a little too far.
