Dining Out — it’s part of my daily routine. But sometimes, I want to get my hands dirty and create something delicious. Cooking in my kitchen is wonderful, and it allows for my creative juices to flow, but sometimes it’s great to mix things up and learn from the pros.
That being said — I was thrilled to find out that Vic & Angelo’s in Palm Beach Gardens now hosts monthly cooking classes. Chef Alain Zimmer selects a topic each month and guides a group of food enthusiasts through the process — and yes, your hands will get dirty. It gets even better, as the classes are extremely affordable. I attended their last class and it cost just $15 — best deal in town.
These classes take place on Saturday mornings (right now, they’re planned for the last Saturday of the month) — and last for approximately one hour. The focus of the class that I attended was ravioli and featured a few variations on dish.
Chef guided the group through the process of making the filling — butternut squash, spinach & cheese and spicy crumbled Italian sausage. The bowls with the fillings were transferred to the tables and the stuffing began, but not before sheets of fresh pasta were placed in front of us.
Spoonfuls of filling decorated the sheets and a second layer of pasta was added. We then formed purses of fresh pasta and cut out our ravioli — round or square, whatever we preferred — and placed them in a box so we could take them home.
Chef then showed us how to make a few different sauces for the ravioli. With the aromas of fresh herbs and house made sauces surrounding us, our stomachs were growling and we were ready to taste our culinary creations.
Just in time, a beautiful plate of freshly made ravioli paired with a beautiful glass of white wine was placed in front of us. Let the tasting begin.
