City Tap House offers a spacious indoor/outdoor gastropub experience that combines sophisticated American cuisine and a massive craft beer selection.
You can comfortably catch all of the college and NFL games on City Tap’s 15-foot multi-screen television, while enjoying upscale skybox-quality hospitality from Executive Chef Brian Stevenson and his team.

The City Tap House has recently opened at West Palm Beach’s entertainment and dining destination, CityPlace, and we were invited to dine on Chef Stevenson signature menu.

Before we could tackle City Tap’s diverse food menu, we were hit with a three-page beer list offering a vast selection of draft, cask, and bottled craft brews from local, regional and specialty breweries. As the experienced beer drinker, I avoided making a sole choice by ordering a flight of four 5 oz. samplers.

My two favorites were from local Florida breweries. Starting with the lightest first, a refreshing passionfruit witbier from Miami’s Wynwood district, Concrete Beach’s Tropic of Passion (4.8 %). This Belgian-style ale is cloudy from a high level of unfiltered wheat, and possesses both a sweet and tart taste.

From Tampa, Cigar City’s Horchata (6.6%) is a tropical ale, made with cinnamon and milk sugar, that plays off the popular Mexican aguas frescas drink. The exotic spiced ale has big vanilla notes, and a sweet and spicy taste.

The Corn & Crab Hushpuppies go great with a craft brew at the bar or as a fantastic start with a meal in the open dining room. So full of delicious crab, it eats more like a fishcake than deep fried cornbread balls. Adding over-the-top flavor, the small plate is accompanied by citrus remoulade dipping sauce and honey-thyme butter.

The same goes for bowls of mussels served four ways, with or without fries. The classic garlic and Belgian ale broth, (Abigail), white wine Mediterranean-style (Verona), a spicy Spanish version with chorizo (Pancho), or Panang Mussels. I love the dark blue, wedged-shaped mollusks as well as Thai curry, so, I was very curious on this combination.

A generous bowl of PEI mussels arrived in a divine sweet, but spicy coconut curry with bold peanut flavor, and, -delightful slices of grilled baguettes were on hand to sop up the addictive broth.

My dinner guest enjoyed the Grilled Bronzino served with a savory Tuscan three-bean salad, along with calamari and smoked mussel escabeche.

Meanwhile, I feasted on Wednesday’s Daily Supper special –Crispy Suckling Pig ($24). This wonderful dish tasted like a cozy autumn memory.

Brined and slow-roasted, the smoky flavored and moist pork rested high over both sweet potato-Poblano pepper hash and firecracker applesauce spiced with cinnamon and Serrano chiles.
