We are all about discovering new restaurants, so when we received an invite to dine at the newly opened Butcher Block Grill, we gladly accepted. Located in The Fountains Center (on the corner of Powerline and Camino Real), Butcher Block Grill brings to Boca Raton an all-natural modern American steakhouse offering traditional steakhouse items combined with flavors of the mediterranean.
The restaurant focuses on utilizing local, all-natural ingredients — something very important to Executive Chef Joshua Hedquist, who you may remember from Assaggio del Forno or da Campo Osteria in Fort Lauderdale. Think — meat and poultry that is antibiotic- and hormone – free and raised on a vegetarian diet; wild seafood that is locally sourced; and produce coming directly from Florida farms. We like it already!
The interior of the restaurant is simple and modern; comfortable, yet elegant. Seating is available inside the restaurant; outside on the patio; or on the high tops overlooking the kitchen, which we think are the best seats in the house. If you choose to sit overlooking the kitchen, a reservation is a must, as these are reserved for diners who want to enjoy a tasting menu, prepared specifically for them by Chef. Don’t worry, as you will go over your likes and dislikes with Chef before the dinner begins.
The welcome feel comes from the interior of the restaurant, the friendly & accommodating staff (they are almost like family, as the staff has moved alongside chef as his career has developed) — but it also comes from some familiar faces that we’ve been following through the years. The fresh, warm mozzarella prepared tableside that we enjoyed so much at Assaggio del Forno (You might recognize our mozzarella demonstration at Assaggio (R) above pictured adjacent to our demo at Butcher Block) is now available at this new Boca hotspot — and it truly is a must order item.
On the rest of the menu, you’ll find a variety of mouth-watering items. Appetizers ($9-$19) include a variety of flatbreads, Super Lump Crab Cakes and a Mediterranean Tapas Spread. Mains ($16-$79) include items from the Butcher Shop like the 6 oz filet mignon and the 32 oz. Porterhouse; items from Modern American Classics section like the Butcher Burger and Chicken Kabobs; and fresh Seafood Dishes like the Wild Salmon with roasted garlic Asiago mashed potatoes and the Local Snapper with corn & heirloom bean succotash. For dessert, may we suggest the Goat Cheese Cheesecake with fresh berries – a welcome and lighter twist to a classic dish.
