Do you love to cook ethnic food, but cringe at the thought of buying (or even finding) all of the ingredients? Well, I have the answer for you. Let me introduce you to GrubKit — a recipe kit filled with hard to find, pre-measured ingredients shipped right to your door. I discovered GrubKit this past summer and it immediately caught my eye. Thai food made easy – and all it would take was a quick trip to Publix. The question now was — how would it taste? I was about to find out.
The GrubKit line was developed by husband and wife team, Max and Barb (Barb also blogs at wishfulchef.com), who want you to cook more at home. They make this process easier by creating kits for popular dishes like Pad Thai, Moroccan Tagine, Mongolian Beef and Chickpea Curry — and ship them all over the country. Inside each kit you will find carefully selected, pre-measured non-perishable ingredients, a recipe card and a shopping list. As an introduction to GrubKit, we tried the Authentic Pad Thai.
This kit was packed with dried rice noodles, tamarind concentrate, Thai fish sauce, palm sugar, dried onion, ground white pepper, ground chili pepper and roasted peanuts s0 all that was required of us, was to pick up some eggs, green onions, tofu (or chicken), a lime and bean sprouts. Simple enough — let’s get started.
After soaking some rice noodles, chopping up some onions, making a sauce and cracking an egg — our Pad Thai was on the table in less than 30 minutes and made a solid 4 servings. The taste? Pretty darn good — and I made it, so even better. This is definitely something I’d order again — and I’m curious to try out the different varieties. They even have contests for home cooks and food bloggers, so if you’re up for a challenge — your recipe could be the next featured GrubKit.
GrubKits are priced at $19.00 with free shipping when you order 3 or more.
